Just what is bone broth anyway? It is made by boiling bones and meat, most typically from beef, pork, and or chicken, sometimes with vegetables and other seasonings. The result is a very flavorful liquid that can be used in cooking, for soups, or just sipped as it is. Bone broth or so its proponents claim is special because it uses bones with more meat on them, includes the joints, and simmers the pot for longer. Well, that just sounds like a high quality stock to me!

A properly made bone broth will have only one advantage over a stock and that is more protein, specifically two to three times as much protein. If you’re trying to get more protein into your life, then fine. Otherwise, don’t expect any benefits. And remember, that store bought bone broth is typically high in sodium, so you might want to check the label if you are trying to restrict your sodium intake.
